Kitten Alert!

This week has been eventful, to say the least. A neighbor rang my doorbell asking me if I can hold a kitten she had found. Unfortunately, Bella doesn’t like cats and she has that only child syndrome. I offered to take the kitten to our local Animal Control.

One of my neighbors had brought the kitten into her home thinking she could keep it. She fed it a can of kitten food which he ate. After handling him and getting scratched by him she realized he would not be a good fit for her.

A crate was brought and the kitten gladly went in. I drove him to Animal control and he was so good in the car. Before bringing him in, I was able to take pictures and a video of him. He is so freaking cute!! The staff scanned him for a chip (he had none) and checked his sex (male).

A day and a half later, I found out he was euthanized. I am saddened he didn’t have a chance at life. Who knew this cutie pie had to be put down because he was showing some neurological issues? To check for rabies, the process is to check the kitten’s brain which gets tested down in Trenton, NJ.

Unfortunately, he had rabies. He was about 10 weeks old. He never had a chance. The only thing was we shortened his life and he didn’t have to suffer long trying to fend for himself.

Now my neighbors who handled the kitten had to get rabies shots. I hope their process of the rabies shot isn’t severe. I was lucky I never touched the kitten.

I did find out, that cats who have rabies don’t survive.

It is always recommended to take your domestic animals to get their rabies shot which lasts 3 years. Don’t skimp on this! If you can’t afford the rabies shot, make sure to check your local town as they have a rabies day clinic annually.
