I remember the weeks before school buying my supplies at K-Mart. I couldn’t wait to get my cabbage patch folder or my trapper keeper. For those youngins, a Trapper keeper is a binder to trap all your loose leaf paper, dividers, and folders.
Never did I think about what teachers had to spend to make our year a successful year. Not sure how the property taxes were distributed in Dover, NJ where I spent most of my childhood school year there. But lately, many teachers are struggling with low-paying jobs and no overtime as they work late in the evening correcting those papers. And on top of it having to dish out extra money for school supplies for those less fortunate kids.
It’s sad because I know here in NJ homes have taxes well over $10K a year, and with the housing market frenzy we had where homes would be sold way over the asking price, homes are being reevaluated meaning taxes go up. What are your politicians doing with that extra cash?
This post was not supposed to be political but it all ties into it. Teachers need your help for this school year. This November who are you voting for?
If you have an extra $5 to spare instead of getting that Starbucks coffee, please consider donating.
My childhood friend reached out to me. She is a teacher in Florida. She needs your help.
Please see her wishlist and pass it along to others that can help.
Thank you!
